Last night was one of Coach Royal’s “Old Ugly”. Lots more to come next week when I have time to do a full review of the game, but here are some positives that jump out:
- Iowa State had 10 yards net rushing. Even if you look at the total gained, 37, that is a huge performance by the defense shutting down the Cyclones rushing attack.
- Texas D held ISU 33 points below their average
- Jacob Park never was comfortable. I need to watch the game again, but I think all three picks were due in part to the pressure put on by the D
- DeShon Elliott is the MVP of the team right now.
- Time of possession: Texas 40:31, ISU 19:29
On a less happy note, the patchwork offensive line seemed to implode in the second half.
As I wrote after USC, Texas has to fix the unforced errors. We had a good first half, but the second was wicked. 10 penalties in the game for 76 yards. Really will have to clean that up to win games the next 3 weeks.
More to come!
