Longhorns Basketball: Kansas vs. Texas 12.29.2017

What a great win for Texas football last night!  Congrats to Coach Herman and the team, and to new AD Chris Del Conte.  He’s 1-0!

I am going to be doing short posts for some of the basketball games, including the official UT stuff, which is always well done.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. Texas Longhorns

Texas and Kansas tip off at 8:00 p.m. Friday night in the Frank C. Erwin Center.

The Jayhawks are the gold standard of basketball success in our conference and one of the perennially elite programs in the nation.  That’s why beating them will be so much fun.

Y’all know the story:  the first Kansas coach, James Naismith, literally invented basketball. Quite a history.

Kansas has won 17 Big 12 regular season titles.  The only years they haven’t won included 1999, when Texas won.  They shared with Texas in 2006 and 2008, and shared a few others.  For those interested, the only other Big 12 regular season champs:  Iowa State 2000 and 2001, Oklahoma State in 2004.

10 Big 12 tournaments titles.

More consensus All-Americans than any other school (22 players, with 29 All-American Honors).

Kansas has made 28 consecutive NCAA tournaments; Jayhawks are 103-45 all-time in the tourney.

14 Final Fours.

5 National championships (3 NCAA NC’s – 1952, 1988, 2008).

Texas is 8-29 against the Jayhawks.  In 2004, we beat them twice, but since then:  2006, 80-55 win in Austin; 2008, 72-69 win in Austin; 2011, 74-63 win at Kansas (that was huge); 2014, 81-69 win in Austin.    They have beat us 7 in a row.  Time to change that!
